Ok I am wandering before it even happens. I am canceling my dish network account, they claim to have me under contract, I never signed a contract so I don't know what they are thinking. I Have been past dew before and I know when you owe them money you get a pre recorded call from Colorado asking you to call a toll number. If memory serves me correctly they can not require me to call a toll number to deal with this, am I correct? On top of this they claim to have my under a verbal recorded agreement, As I said I have no recollection of such an agreement, Verbal agreements are not admissible in court are they? I am pretty sure they are in breech anyone do to not supplying the quality of service in the imaginary contract.

When you signed up, you probably got some kind of promotional deal for new customers, right? For example, maybe you paid $19.99/month for the first 6 months and then the regular rate after that. Those offers are always based on a contracted length of service. They offer the promo rate based on the fact that they'll make it up by having you as a guaranteed customer for a set period of time. Just like with cell phones where they give you the phone for $9.99 with a 2-year contract. You may not have physically signed anything but by accepting the terms of service, you agreed to the contract.Steve

2) Collection agencies cannot force you to do anything.
You're "wondering" ahead of time, and imagining arguements that have yet to happen. Don't worry about it. Get a dated, written confirmation of the cancellation, and you'll be fine.

I have Dish Network, and when I tried to cancel, they told me I was on a two-year contract. I didn't know that, but when I pulled out the installation papers, in little tiny writing above where I signed to agree for them to install, it said it was a two-year contract.
The monthly fee quickly went from $39.99 to $53.99 to now just under $60 and I am seriously sorry I ever did it.
