I'm sure he has, and I'm not saying his advice doesn't have value. But in Dave's realm, there are no room for you to pursue your dreams while you have debt...as pointed out in the example. Even if you are a year away from your phd in a 5 year program...

If your dream is to have no debt then sure, his advice is good for that.
