    Debt... how to find source?

    Hello,

I know I have at least 1 student loan out from back in the day. I would like to resume paying that and one other debt I have off, but I can't for the life of me find out where it is.

I tried to get a copy of my credit report for information only to be locked into a catch22.

I heard the Department of education has a database that I can look it up in but I've been unsuccessful

    Thank you!!

Define catch22. Your credit report is your best way to find it, or you can save money and wait for them to find you.

Use annualcreditreport.com to get a credit report.

I'm also wondering what you mean about the credit report. Were the debts not listed on there?

I tried that. To get in I had to verify myself. To verify myself I needed account #'s of current debt.

So to see what all my debtors are... I need information about them.

Those are safeguards in place because of the inherent security risk that the internet poses. You can also request your credit report from the credit bureaus via mail or telephone. I'm not sure about what the telephone process is, but for getting it by mail, you just fill out and mail a form, then they send you back your credit report (within ~2-4 weeks). You don't need any account information to get it by mail, just your name, SSN, and current address (and previous address if you've moved within the last 2 years).
