  • Creativity help needed

I am out of potatoes rice, and pasta. and I have two more dinners to go till we grocery shop! I know I am an idiot, but please anyone have an idea?

I have less than a pound of ground meat, some spinache (the only vegetable in the house) and some dried northern beans, and 1 egg. Also plenty of flour but I am not a great cook, and I have no idea what to do with it! I was kind of thinking of pancakes for dinner, but DH doesn't eat to many of them and he will be cranky. I do have some ramen noodles if I get desperate, but we did just have them (I've been without for most of the week)

I do have the money to buy food, but I don't drive so I have to wait till DH gets home and that is right before dinner, not only are the kids going to be whiny if they miss dinner, but DH and I will be too, so if I could figure out a meal that could be eaten in the car (no crockpot, busted) or seconds after we get home we could prolly go tonight, if not we are stuck waiting till Sunday. (DH works Saturdays)

try going to allrecipes.com and use the ingredient search feature: link

also, cooking by numbers lets you pick the foods you have in the house and comes up with recipes.

how about bean soup? if you have some yeast, you could make up some bread to go with it. or, you could make your own pasta (I've never done it but I hear it's pretty easy): recipe

thanks for the link, I just realized I have company comming tommorow! (it is potluck but still) Did I mention I was an idiot.

Found yeast and fettuchini noodles hiding in the cupboard.

Also the link for the all recipes led me to lots of spinach lasagnas, I am so craving that now! Do you think I would be crazy to do Pizza tommorow for campany, and the lasagna tonight? Never mind I'll answer that YES! ok but. beans, creamy white chili. I can do that. From all recipes, creamy white bean soup and white chili recipe combined, should work right?

I think the white bean soup/chili should work great! with lots of seasoning, anything tastes good.

how would you make spinach lasagna? do you have spinach or lasagna? it does sound really good.

pizza is a good idea, I think. hopefully you can get to the store this evening.

I made it in a pot with the sauce and the spinach and the ground meat all in one pot then made the fettuchini noodles in another and combined, so sort of a cassarole, and I didn't have any goat cheese or riccotta but it turned out ok. Satisfied the craving anyway. I never liked spinach but man dumping it in the pot last night, boy did it smell good!

I think I am going with the white chili like stuff, cause I can make it at naptime and forget about it for the most part . (Pizza while fun is a lot more work!) , hm mental note, do not take a nap today!

So I have another question the thoiught of ham or bacon is making me sick, would I be a bad hosstess if I skipped it?

Also velveeta has done that for awhile do you think I should use mexican blend cheese or motzarella? (the two option in the house).

              Re: Creativity help needed

If the thought of ham or bacon is making you ill, leave it out. I don't think you will be considered a bad hostess for it. The Creamy Italian White Bean Soup doesn't have any meat in it anyway (was that the recipe you were considering?). That actually sounds really good. Of course, I am a teensy bit biased since I don't eat meat, but I say, do what you want. a nice loaf of crusty bread would more than make up for it. I'd probably use mozzarella over the mexican cheese.

Sounds like fun! I may have to try that recipe myself.

oops no missed that one, was looking at a different creamy thing, lost the link. and the white chili I, sort of mixing the two.

I like the spices better in the white chili, but creamy sounds fun.

                Thanks again.

I cut and pasted the ingredients, so I would have it all together.

                White Chili I

It sounds like you have come up with some good ideas! I would have run to the store.

The creamy italian soup sounds so good I think I will have to make it soon.
