  • pancake mix tip

I normally make pancakes/waffles from scratch, but was earlier caught in a hurry-up crunch and so got out an inexpensive mix out of the cabinet --

which reminded me of a cost savings you can gain by only buying the mix that says 'add water' only instead of those that ask for an addition of 'milk & egg'.

This would also apply to those other inexpensive mixes you can buy like small cake mixes, brownies, quick breads. If you've got a choice and money savings is the object, take the one that only asks for an addition of water.

Good point. When I used to use mix, I never even noticed the "water only" instructions for years. My eyes always went right to the fancier recipe!

my kids get up at 6 am and catch bus at 645 am, so i make them up the nite before, cover and reheat, to have em done quicker. we also premake scrambled eggs french toast, bacon, so they have choices and its all eaten in a day or two. I also buy gallon jugs of syrup. Its only 5 dollars! its name brand, and a long ways cheaper then buying all those small bottles. Just keep an old bottle or buy a new empty bottle. it works and saves loads.

        a gallon of syrup 5.00
        a bottle 22 oz 2.37 same brand
thats about 6 bottles in each gallon purchase,
2.37 x 6= 14.22 minus 5=savings of 9.22 cents. it dont have to be refriderated and lasts a very long time.

        another cost saving affective purchase:

resteraunt size jug of aged cheddar cheese. $7.92 here at our store, its 110 ounces of cheddar cheese, like u get at a nacho machine, or in those lil cans you buy that cost 2 dollars or more. That can holds 48 of those lil 2 dollar cans. Use baggies and freeze. fill baggie as much as you can, start to zip it, take out air, lay flat before putting in freezer so it flattens out.
        resteraunt can 7.92
lil cans bought seperatly 48 @2= 96 dollars
        96.00-7.92= savings of 88.08!!!!!
