  • what should a grocery budget be for 1 person?

I applied for a job and have an interview tomorrow. Tomorrow can be life changing for me. Anyways, I would like to buy my own food from now on if I got the job, even if I do live at home still because if I do get this job, I don't want to buy outside food all the time.

Thanks! I am pretty good with using coupons and stuff (like the $3.50 extrabucks for CVS) and I actually use coupons to save money at times.

What should a budget be for 1 person on food for a week? I wouldn't have to buy much since I still live with my parents for the time being but now since I might get this job I want to start doing things for myself.

you will find that food costs will be a major expense

i do not have a budget, if i see the item on sale at a good
price i will buy and store it. as i sit now i can go weeks
without spending any money on food. there will be times you
spend more and other weeks you can save but in the long run
    you are saving.

i like to shop discount grocery stores, produce stands and
even the dollar store, they have very good breads, tortillas
and one that i like has fresh produce.

I think it's a wonderful idea to start paying your own way once you are working. I'm hoping you have some type of bank account or Credit Union account since most employers pay wages directly to each employees own account. If not, since banks are a more expensive option, I suggest an account at a Credit Union.

I would encourage you to allocate 20% of any sum earned right off the top to go to savings. It's called 'paying yourself first.' Will you have a new expense of 'transportation' to get to work and return home? If food is your #1 priority, do you see yourself taking food to work for lunch or snack or dinner break? What will you take? Sandwich? leftovers from the previous day's dinner or something special prepared just for you? Any easy method is to limit cost to $ 5. for each meal like a beverage, salad/greens, meat/fish/egg protein, small carb like bread/rice/pasta/potato.

Good luck on the interview, I hope you're the successful candidate.
