$160 an hour to shred cheese?

I want this job! and I hate to shred cheese! here

Actually shredded cheese is a staple of my grocery budget. I am going to have to time myself shredding a whole lb of cheese, because I do not think I could get it done in under 2 minutes! Anybody know what I am doing wrong?

only if I had a food processor. I don't think it could be done that fast could it?? Still, the price is insane. We buy big blocks and I take 30 minutes to shred it and then freeze it.

I guess it depends on the type of shredder you use? My Dad can shred 1 lb of cheese by hand really fast! (I've never timed him, but he's fast!)....

Yikes! I'm a sucker for prepackaged things and always think that they save me time. I guess I have to rethink that assumption.

We buy a lot of cheese. I get the big bags of shredded cheese for 5.99. I don't know how many lbs that is but that usually does it for several pizzas and dinners.

In one store I use to shop at, the grated cheese was cheaper than the block cheese, so I purchased it grated. Always check unit price.

I usually buy the shredded but I am not able to do it myself so I don't have a choice. I do usually buy the store brand since I only use it for cooking and my family can't tell the difference.

Oh man we so can tell the difference, No one will eat the store brand unless it is the deli version of the store brand. Which is fortunatly cheaper still. But I learned the hard way. The exact same ingredients do not neccessarily make the exact same food. I discoverd this when trying to make something of my grandmothers, followed the same recipie and everything, not at all like grandmas! Same goes for store brand vs brand name. Not that it is never good, just that you have to check.

I get mine at Sams and it's cheaper to get the shredded. I agree always check the unit price.

I forgot to mention, I timed myself. It takes about 30 minutes to shred a lb of cheese, that is with the kids 'helping' and one needing to use the potty in the middle, and cleaning up the spilled water, and having to give half the cheese to the kids to eat .

When I freeze blocks of cheese, it always slices super crumbly. So If I need something more shreddy, I just take a block of dfrosted cheese from the fridge and slice it. Big crumblies, that I can make into little crumblies.

I always buy the blocked cheese as it is cheapest that way. Last year at a yard sale I bought a shredder for $2.00 It's small and the best shredder ever. Once I'm finished with it, I throw all of the parts in the dishwasher and get them cleaned that way. Super easy!

At my Walmart the shredded cheese is the same price as the block so I buy it. Saves me time!!

I never buy shreded cheeze. And I only shred as much as needed for a certain meal. That way it stays fresh longer, and lasts longer. To shread a half pound, it will take me about 5-7 min. Good exercise!!! Never tried the whole pound at the same time.

I found that eggs are the cheapest convinience food. Recently I found it for 70c/dozen at WinCo. I boil them in the evening. Dh takes a couple to work along with a sandwich or dinner leftovers and a fruit. And I put the rest in the fridge for a quick snack later on.
