  • Can soft cream cheese be frozen?

I hope so - I have more than I need in my frig, and it would be nice to store some away in the freezer. Anyone know?

I imagine it'd be just like other cheese after it thaws...a bit crumbly. But do you have an alternative? Worst case, it either goes bad and you throw it out, or it doesn't freeze well.

Check the expiration date though. I thing cream cheese has a pretty long one.

regular cream cheese frozen comes out extremely crumbly/lumpy so I don't bother with that one

we freeze it alot...just cover it with aluminum foil and double bag it.. if you let it defrost a room temperature, it will be creamy, not crumbly.

High fat cream cheese (the block) can be. It should be fine, but if it's a bit crumbly when you thaw it, adding a touch of milk and low microwave and mixing it will help smooth it out. You can also blend in BUTTER, just a touch, before you freeze it, to keep it smooth. Tub cream cheese, depends upon which brand/what it's got in it.

Tofu or soy cream cheese, no. Freezing it is how you make crumbly tofu for fake ground beef.

I bought a smart and final tub of spreadable lowfat cream cheese. I suppose if it does turn out crumbly, I can use it in one of my vegetarian meals as a protein stand-in.
