  • Source for pectin?

Where is a good place to purchase pectin at a better price than typical single packets from the grocery store?

What kind of place might be best to look for it in bulk or otherwise inexpensively? I'm sure I've seen it, but can't recall where.

You can probably find it online for cheap. You could also possibly boil down pears/apples to get it, but I doubt it would be worth your time in the long run. I'd lean towards shopping on the internet.

Here is a recipe for using apples:

Sorry for butchering the URL, I'm still new here so it won't let me just post it. Admins, please don't be mad

Buying pectin online was not a good experience for me. The packet they send i dont really like it cause we can cause from different varieties and get the one you want.

Thanks for the suggestions, folks. I once boiled the peels of immature apples to concentrate pectin for use the following spring, but then I couldn't get it to re-dissolve. I didn't follow any guidelines and apparently common sense was not enough. The trouble with just combining apples with other fruit is that my other fruits bear in the spring rather than late summer/early fall as the apples do.

I remembered a harvest forum I used to read frequently and found some online suggestions there. It reminded me, too, that citrus pectin is a good alternative for jams when you do not want to add sugar, so that's ideal for strawberry jam, which I'll be making in a few days.

Here's the harvest forum if anyone is interested.
