  • Angel Food Ministries?

Has anyone heard of Angel Food Ministries and if you have, what is your experience? I am thinking of contacting the group in my area and trying it out. I have a friend who has done it and she says that it really helps her to save on her grocery bills.

Hmmmm...well, if you are already a frugal grocery shopper I'm not sure how much it will save you. BUT, if you are the type who easily spends 80-200 a week on groceries, then yeah, they're great.

You do get to try some different things and I did buy from them one time. Nice box of food for the money. That said, if you are already a deep discount shopper like myself it isn't all that much (if any) of a savings device.

You ought to give it a shot. You may find you like it. HERE the line was very, very long and it felt weird to me standing in it, so it isn't for me. But, you might enjoy the chatting in line with strangers. That's just not my thing.

However, if the savings had been 'enough' I would make the effort to stand in the line, I'd just bring my paperback to read while doing it!

Upon re-reading this I got myself a laugh - haha - I'm online chatting with strangers but hey, at least ya'll good folks are faceless strangers who are interested in the same kind of things I am!

      Re: Angel Food Ministries?

I consider us pretty frugal grocery shoppers most of the time. We fed a family of 7 on $80 a week for years in the 90s. Now there are 5 of us at home except on weekends(3 of them teenagers, 2 boys) and we spend $100 because of price increases.

No, I'm not much of one for standing in line chatting with strangers either. I would take a book to read though. LOL! But I also have a friend who does this so maybe we could go together and chat.

I will keep thinking about it and probably give it a try once to see how I like it.

Yes, I did try it and we like it quite well. We've gotten it the past 2 months and I'm going to pick up another box this Saturday.

Here is my blog post about my thoughts on it.

                    Re: Angel Food Ministries?

Okay, here's my question. Is this just for low income people? I've thought about using it myself but I've felt uncomfortable about it. Am I taking food away from the needy? Heaven knows we aren't wealthy, far from it, but we can afford to feed our family.
                    Anyone???

There are no income guidelines. They say "if you eat, you qualify".

                          Re: Angel Food Ministries?

Well, I think I'm going to give it a try! I've thought about doing it in the past, but none of the churches in my town offered the service. I would've had to drive 25 or more miles. A local church just started this service last month. Now that I don't have to drive, I think I'll give it a shot

We use it and I love it. It really helped us, especially when we were running very low on funds last month. We bought two units of food and a special (with steaks, etc.). I still have a freezer full. I paid a total of $69 for my food.
