  • Newspaper Seed Starting Pots

Someone had asked me how I made my newspaper seed starting pots. Here's the link to the video. They're super easy, but I don't think I type descriptive enough

So far they've held up well to watering and I feel like I'm doing my part to recycle!

Toward the end of the video she recommends to remove the baby plant from the newspaper pot. I SO agree with that, and also highly recommend removing plants from those compressed peat pots that commercial nurseries sometimes sell plants in. I recommend not even using the peat pots at home. (These multi-layer newspaper pots are better.) Peat pots can cause root tips to get damaged and dry up if you cannot keep the pots constantly moist. Yet if you keep the pots moist enough to prevent root tip drying, then you have a great chance of over-watering the poor plants.

Also, if you have the newspaper pots in plastic trays, it is better to use the type with drainage holes than the solid, undrained ones. If growing indoors, you can use the drained trays inside of the solid trays to preserve your table, yet allow good drainage.
