How much was your goal the first week?

I know that everyone would like to cross off $52 the first week, but I don't think that is possible for me. I am barely making ends meet at the moment, so that would be a lot of extra money. For someone just beginning with not a lot of experience saving money or creating an emergency fund, what would be a good amount to shoot for saving the first week?

You could always start with $1 for the first week and work your way up from there. That's how the 52 Week Savings Challenge was initially set up, to save $1 the 1st week, $2 the 2nd week, $3 the 3rd week and so on through week 52. It sounds like that would be a great way for you to start saving and building an emergency fund.

I'm just trying to save as much as I can. I'm like you and I can't save big amounts at the beginning, but i want to try and save more than the lowest numbers if possible. So I just shoot for as much as I can rather than a dollar amount for right now. maybe when I get better I will try for a specific number, but right now just saving anything is a big deal for me.

Just save as much as you can and cross that number off. You can skip around, which is what I will likely be doing eventually. Anything saved is better than nothing saved, and it DOES add up!

OK. My problem is that I'm a goal oriented person. I think I need to step back and refocus. I tend to feel if I can't get the top number, I somehow failed, but that doesn't seem to be the way this is set up. If I keep a number out of my head and save as much as I can, then I should do OK. It's tough with my personality, but I think I will give it a try.

If you want to save more faster use two envelopes. The first envelope would be for the 52 week challenge. On the first week, add $1, on the second week add$2 and so on until you hit the 52nd week with the $52 deposit into the envelope.

The second envelope can be used as your reserve. So, if on the second week you have $10 extra dollars, but $2 into the first envelope to cover week 2 and then put the extra $8 into the second envelope to use to cover future weeks when you are short that week. This way you will be able to make all 52 payments (To yourself).

Kind of like an emergency fund for your 52 week challenge...lol.
