  • 2014 Challenge - Week 18

It's payday and I was able to deposit $56 for Week 18 of the challenge. I kind of fell of the wagon with keeping track of my spending, so I'm going to try to get back on track for May.

            • 2014 Challenge - Week 21

I received $59 from Swagbucks and 3 Pinecone surveys, so that took care of my Week 21 challenge deposit of $54. I get paid next week so I'm hoping to mark off $53 at that time so I can finish the $50 increments. Thanks Darci!!!

              • 2014 Challenge - Week 22

I deposited $53 for Week 22 of the challenge and I am now done with the 50's! I had a ton of freebies this month because of my birthday, and I'm hoping I'll have time to pick up my last freebie from Panera Bread tomorrow. I had 5 free coffees (Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks, Biggby), a free pizza from Cottage Inn, a free burger and fries from Red Robin, a free sub from Erbert and Gerbert's, and free makeup from Sephora; not to mention the great gifts I got from my family. It made saving much easier when I had so many perks! I can't even believe that in 4 weeks, I'll be halfway through the challenge. I definitely feel blessed!

                • I'm thinking of trying it out too. Is it too late to try since it is now the mid-year?

                  • Hi Carmela, it is not too late to start so I hope you'll give it a try. I have included a link to the article that Jeffrey posted that explains the challenge:

There are lots of different methods available, so just find what works best for you. I hope you share your progress in the forums, and I wish you the best on your savings!

I deposited $48 for Week 23 of the challenge. I actually had a $50 cash back reward from Discover post to my account this week, so I have $2 left to put towards my deposit next week.

                        • 2014 Challenge - Week 25

I deposited $46 for Week 25 of the challenge. I had a double blessing this week; $25 transfer from PayPal for Swagbucks and a very nice late birthday gift (cash) from my sister. I had more than enough money to cover this week's deposit, so I'm going to set aside the rest of my birthday money in a slush fund so I can treat myself when I feel the need.

                          • 2014 Challenge - Week 26

It's payday and I deposited $44 for Week 26 of the challenge. I am at the half-way mark and my total deposits for this year are $1,332 and combined with my 2013 challenge (and interest) I will have $2,725.45 in my challenge account. I get motivated when I see the numbers, but I have to admit I feel the shopping urge creeping up on me. It's time to find an inexpensive way to reward myself.

                            • Great job Deedee! You're doing amazing!

About the shopping thing what is the purpose of your savings? Is it your emergency fund or is it something else? Mine is travel and Christmas and I DO have an emergency fund already so I've come to the place where I don't feel bad about this. I WOULD feel bad if I was spending $ I didn't have though. I guess this is the long winded way to say it's ok to use the $ for the intended purpose.

Oh! Since some of that was birthday $ use that for something you want and enjoy! That was the intent!!

                              • Thanks Darci! I'm still working on my emergency fund (I'm striving for 8 months - not a year), so I don't indulge myself too much but I do treat myself from time to time so I can stay motivated. You are blessed - congrats on having your emergency fund in place!
