9. Drive at the speed limit. Cars use about 20% more fuel driving at 70 miles per hour than they do at 55 miles per hour.

can you show me where you found that at? thats a huge percent, sounds inaccurate, but prove me wrong please.
Did you know that a Corvette, even with its powerful V8, gets almost 30 MPG on the highway! Aerodynamics and tall highway gear make it effificent at those speeds!

Oil prices are rising due to meddling of traders. The laws of supply and demand are no longer the driver. The government was supposed to protect the consumer from such activity but they don't seem to act until it is too late and many are hurt. Think California and the phony electricical shortage during the Enron days....

I would have to go with the ac over opening windows
if its a hot day and you're driving slow open windows will use less fuel but whats the point - you won't cool down much
ac cools the car down rapidly and only needs to be on for a short while to be effective.
other gas price comparisons:
for the US
and the UK
Hope these helpLast edited by jeffrey; 05-18-2008, 05:16 PM.

Here's another tip. Take this pretty much as far as you want. If your car has a built in instantaneous fuel economy display, you can monitor that and drive accordingly. Sometimes, when there's no traffic, I'll try not to let it drop below say, 25 mpg. What that means is, as you go up hill, you actually let off the gas, the opposite of what your instinct wants to do.
This works wonders, believe it or not. My truck has an EPA estimated 15 mpg city and 18 Highway. I've averaged around 23 miles to the gallon. Not too shabby, I wouldn't say.
If your car doesn't have the fuel economy display, you can do what I did, and that's buy a ScanGauge. They're around $150, and no real "hypermiler" would be without one.You know the stuff works when you come to the day you used to refuel, and you've got like ¼ tank left.
