Default Odd transaction re: postage

I bought one of DD's textbooks on a couple of weeks ago. I paid $1.99 for the book plus $3.99 for standard shipping (Media Mail). So I spent a total of $5.98.

The book arrived but was shipped Certified Mail. Postage was $7.28.

That means the seller spent $1.30 more than I had paid and actually the seller doesn't get the full postage payment (that's part of where makes their money). The seller would have gotten $2.64 plus the $1.99 for the book (minus the commission).

So the bottom line is that the seller received $4.63 but paid the commission and $7.28 postage (plus the cost of the padded envelope). Seller lost more than $3.00 on the deal plus the value of the book.

I have no idea why he/she did that but that's not my problem I suppose.

Likely the seller was not experienced and went to the post office and was offered a signature option. Too bad for them!
