  • Age of oldest credit line question

I've been tracking my credit score on Karma (I know) now for a couple months. I also viewed my entire TransUnion report in January. I opened a silly credit card (Citi) for a free tee-shirt in college and it was on there. No negatives, just the one time existence of other credit cards. After not using the card for three years it was closed by Citi.

That was 7 years ago. Karma thinks my credit history is only 4 years old. Is is possible for me to call Citi and reopen that card, in order to beef up my age of credit. I want it to be considered the same line though, otherwise its all in vain.

I'm already at 747 according to Karma, so I'm not sure if it's worth it. But if all it requires is a phone call or two I would consider doing this.

    Thanks!

Re-opening that card would not add age to your credit history. As far as the credit bureaus (and Citi) are concerned, it would just be opening a new line of credit. And honestly, 750-ish is a perfectly fine credit score... don't worry about trying to "beef it up."

They wouldn't do it for you anyway. But if you want a new card, they'll of course be happy to open up a new account for you
