  • Anyone into foreign investment

Anyone put their hard earned money on the line on a foreign market...
I checked out a couple recently CHINA.. and HONK KONG..

Honk kong is hot right now...
but China has been going south for a while.. it looks like after our market crashed in 2000.. all the money went straight to china and theirs skyrocketed, but ever since than been going down..

but than on the flip side, HONK KONG has been climbing up and up and up..

kinda funny, since, they're supposed to be the same country!

      Re: Anyone into foreign investment

I have an American Funds EuroPacific Growth fund (REREX) through my employer benefits. It jumped up about $4 in the last quarter, so I'm happy. I think the world is too small not to invest in foreign markets, though I try to stay diversified and not put too much overseas.

On China / Hong Kong: I think Hong Kong is like a country within a country. It is still pretty recent that it came into China sovereignty, but I think it still retained some of its autonomy, or at least capitalist ideology, when tranferred from Britain in '97.

About 1/3 of my money is in foreign index funds. I have some play money in Lazard Emerging Markets fund. It's not doing too bad.

I think a bit of foreign investment belogns in every portfolio (15-35% depending on your risk tolerance, goals, horizon, etc.).
