What is an affordable life insurance for a cigarette smoker?

Different insurance companies will price the risk of smoking differently. I would say shop around different companies to find an affordable term life insurance policy.

Another option is to talk with a financial advisor or life insurance broker who may be able to quote you different rates. They may try to push you in the direction of whole life insurance, but you're almost always better off with term. Find a good company with an affordable rate and secure the guaranteed insurability rider on your policy.

The guaranteed insurability rider is VERY important. This makes it so that you can renew easier after the orignal term runs out. It will be essential once you become older. Another thing to consider is that term life insurance costs more once you get older. Good luck!

I gave up smoking to get lower cost insurance. I don't miss it, maybe you should try to quit.

Higher rates for smoker reflect two thing. Higher mortality directly from smoking and higher mortality associated with a tendency to not take care of themselves as well as non smokers. So you get a double whammy.

If you get term insurance the underwriting standards can be different based on the face amount. Below 1 million dollars might have a urine test but you could pass this if you quit smoking for a period of time like 1 month.

Some lower face amounts might have a form you have to fill out. I am not advocating lying but you might be able to get better rates if the underwriting standards are lower - usually for lower face amounts.
