I just used Zander Insurance (I know, I know) to get my term life coverage. If you listen to Dave Ramsey's show he pimps them out but they were actually very pleasant to deal with and NO SALES PITCH! I spoke with several agents and hated that they were always trying to get me to buy a cash value/cash value-term life combo policy.

You fill out a basic online questionnaire and it instantly provides you with quotes based on your requirements. Zander doesn't actually provide you the insurance, they're just a broker—so you'll get several quotes and you can pick which one you want to go with. You can cross reference the companies through A.M. Best to check out the financial solvency/strength of that particular insurance company.

I recommend that everyone who is struggling with the question of 'how much' read the chapter on life insurance in the book Die Broke.
Then, get some term life quotes and buy some.
Easy.

Most insurance salesman want to sell you whole life policies. I would just google term life insurance and shop one over the net.
8 to 10 years income is standard, and you should shop every five years to replace. The idea is to extend coverage as cheaply as possible.
I would also avoid a return of premium plan. You could take the difference in premium and invest it.
