  • Form 1099-DIV help?

So I opened up a mutual fund through Vanguard last year.
It is the total bond market index and I just got the form 1099-DiV today.
I didn't even think that I would have to put this into my taxes.

I'll be doing my taxes through turbotax ez form because I'm single living with my parents so nothing to write off.
But It showed I had to do a seperate file for the premier investment, which costs like 49.95 so I lost all my interest I earned on the bond fund!?

There is a link on the vanguard home page for turbo tax at a discount. I think basic is around 11 and deluxe is 22, I don't see why you couldn't do basic if all you have is a 1099. Check out the link on the vanguard site and try the basic. Input all your figures and you don't pay till you print and e-file.

You should need a schedule B for that. Instead of paying extra just pick up the tax forms and mail it in. You used to do 1040EZ but probably will be doing 1040A.

You could pull the forms off the IRS website, go into your library, or see if you have an IRS walk-in office. Post office used to have forms but I don't know if they are carrying them this year.

I have news for you- as you move out of parents house, taxes for you will get more complex, and more favorable to your bank account.

The way the tax software makes money is by charging you more for more complex returns. HR block, turbo tax and others all use same basic pricing scheme.

Use taxslayer.com. It costs about 16 or 17 for Federal AND State.
