  • GM MasterCard Bad Experience

I just had a very bad experience with GM Mastercard. After almost 2
decades of being a customer which never had a late payment and always
paid if full each cycle, I maxed out the $500 per year rebate on my
original GM Card. I plan an $8000 purchase in about 2 months so I
applied for and received a second GM Card so I could earn about $400
rebate on this purchase, but they only gave me a $3500 credit limit. I
requested an increase but was denied due to "insufficient account
history". I called and explained that while this card was brand new, I
have another card with a $10,000 limit that I have never even been late
on etc. The person I talked to was rude, kept asking the same
questions over and over and when I asked for his supervisor he insulted
    me and cut me off.

I called back, waited my turn again, and asked for the customer service
manager. When she came on the line she would only identify herself by
her first name and was of no help with the insulting and hanging up
issue and told me that the fact that I had been a customer with them
for all those years had no bearing on this second card because it was a
new card. I further explained the situation and even told her she could
reduce the limit on my other card if it would help and she said it
would not help, and that my history with the other account with them
had no bearing on this second account. I felt like I was talking with
people who were not worth my time and certainly not worth what ever
they were being paid, even though I am pretty sure the manager at least
    was an American.

I guess I will use my Citicard for the purchase. 1% of $8000 is $80
and maybe that is better than a $400 rebate towards another crappy GM
vehicle. The 5% rebate had been a good marketing tool for GM keeping
people like me buying GM, but maybe after I use the rebate I have on my
original card I will start looking at other makes of cars and trucks.
Maybe a Ford F150 will take the place of my GMC when I decide to
replace it. I do like my Citicard and have always been treated very
    well by their customer service.

Wow - vote with your dollars and buy a different model of vehicle! I would so not ever use one of their cards again! My goodness.

Can you relocate some of the credit line from the old card to the new card?

It’s my understanding that you can only use the credit from 1 card towards a purchase and that the amount you can actually apply towards the purchase is limited. I think a lot of people get disappointed by their GM rewards card.

For whatever its worth, I used my GMCard for over ten years and never bought a GM car. It took me that long to realize I was fooling myself and would never buy GM.

Since switching to the Chase Ultimate Cash Rewards card, at least I have gotten two checks for $125. Its not as much as the GM rebate, but it's cash in the pocket.

Well I like my GM card and I got 1700 off of my corvette purchase. Now, i am just getting the cash back, I certainly do think you were treated rudely! I hate to talk to these people who speak broken english.

Clearly just another clever market ploy from GM. There 5% rebate is virtually worthless. Before they rolled out this rebate, they marked all their vehicles up about 5%. So really you can see how good of a deal you are missing out on. I would suggest buying a nice pre-owned car, as they cost thousands less, and are still as good. Some people don't realize what a waste of money a brand new car is. It loses almost 25% of it's value as soon as you drive it off the lot. Would you invest in something that gave you a -25% return. Of course not, but if you have bought a new car, then you have done just that. Just some food for thought.

It is so hard to get people to sign on for a card. A great deal of money is spent getting customers on board. It never fails to amaze me how companies allow their employees to be rude and chase customers away. I guess I just don't get it!

The thingto remeber about GM Card like all other Earnings cards is that most if not all the time within their rules and guidelines it will state that any person with a GM Card (for example) cannot apply for a second GM Card. The reason being?? Situations such as this when people think that a company is trying to screw them when really it's the persons own lack of understanding the situation they are putting themselves and the credit card company in. What could two of these cards result in??? You complaining you can't use the two cards........which is why they give you no advantages in opening multiple accounts.
