    The Super-Rich Are Miserable

The research on wealth and happiness is filled with contradictions. For ages, studies showed that more money didnít bring more happiness and that happiness plateaued at a certain income or wealth level once certain needs were met.

Last year brought contrary research showing that more wealth did, in fact, make people more satisfied with their lives, even if they still had day-to-day frustrations. A new study co-funded by the Gates Foundation, however, portrays the ultrarich as lost souls burdened by the fears, worries and family distortions of too much money...

That doesn't surprise me at all. Look at all of the stories of celebrities going in and out of rehab, a string of failed marriages, financial problems despite tremendous income, etc. Significant wealth brings with it many pressures and challenges that the rest of us won't ever really appreciate. I've also seen shows about lottery winners and how some of them truly wish they had never won because getting all of that money ruined their lives, destroyed relationships and overall made them miserable.

It seems as though the sentiment among the rich interviewed was "heavy lies the crown".

I think the key is to be financially debt free but live a middle class or upper middle class lifestyle. I know a few who have done that and are very happy.
