for me its debts, I pay more than 50 % to try to pay off a huge amount in 9 months. Also I do not have a house and I am living at the house where I work as a live in attendent... This is why I am able to pay more than half towards my debts. Sure wish I could save all that money!
Mortgage, Then I guess it's the Car payment. We have two vehicles but we only make payments on one. It was a hard decision to do this because we haven't had a car loan in a long long time. I love having a new truck but I hate the payments.
Credit cards for us! But we throw a lot of money at them trying to get the payments down.
Now, what do I spend more money on than I should on? That would be the car! But that's because we were upside down on a loan, added that to a car and traded that in yet again for another van and we owe twice what the van is worth! Believe it or not, given the circumstances, this was a wise choice and one that will be rectified in five years or less.
After you've paid off the student loans, what will you do with the money you were paying each month?
Well, then I have to build up my emergency fund to full strength. Then I have to build up my car fund as well. Then I have to build up my house fund....
So, there's still plenty more to do. Not half as exciting as bookie's idea though.
My biggest expenditure is housing (mortgage, PITI, & utilities), for 30% of my after-tax income. If I were calculating taxes, they'd probably come next, but I did my calculations basedon after-tax income. When I have time, I'll have to see how taxes compare to the rest of my expenses! Next comes food at 18% (too much dining out) and I spend 13% of my after-tax income on transportation.
But besides that, I spend as much in gas as a do in food! :P
We spend more on gas than food and the rest of groceries, although I get reimbursed for most of the miles I drive for work and they pay more for every mile than the cost of gas I am using for those miles. Dh gets little reimbursement, but just one-way from the company to the customer location.
food and groceries = $200-250
gas =350, but we get about $100 back, + the %back for using the cc at the gas station, so I guess it's ok
