    Re: Need HELP..

I know I'm an oddball, but - I'd actually be kind of unhappy wearing a financed ring. I'd be really nervous about wearing it, and concerned that perhaps the debt would impact the honeymoon or wedding or saving for a house. My two cents.

Another nickel: be sure the lady likes gold and likes diamonds. I'm like Catlinye Maker. I much prefer silver, and I like the semi-precious stones. In my case, if a guy got me a gold/diamond ring, I'd know he doesn't know me, because I wear lots and lots of silver. You might be lucky, in that she might prefer something cheaper.

Congratulations, and I hope she says yes and that you are very happy.

Oh my yes find out the color preference!

Dh found out I liked both gold and silver, and was left ina quandry about what I wanted to wear for the rest of my life! (mine is silver with bands of gold)

Thought of another cool idea, the Irsih have a tradittion of a claudiga ring, and I can't spell it to save my life, but it is a pair of hands holding a heart with a crown on it, the way you wear it signifies spoken for or availible. I love mine, though it was bought long after I was married . (at a renfest, nice work)

        Re: Need HELP..

I'd go for a cheaper ring when you pop the question. I must be traditional, lol. My dh knew I didn't like huge honker guady rings, and I've got small hands, it would look silly. Plus, I would NOT allow him to spend much. (yeah, he lucked out there) He picked out a band with inset tiny diamonds, think he told me it was about $300, paid in cash, a small portion of his bi-weekly paycheck. I loved it! Was getting the man I loved not some stupid outrageous priced ring. He let me pick out the wedding ring a few months later, found a small band with a small diamond that complimented the engagement band for about $350, paid in cash. I found his, a plain gold comfort band, for about $75. We were both thrilled with the purchases and wouldn't want for anything more.

We went on our honeymoon (which was a trip in of itself, not the norm) with our rings paid in full. The trip was that much sweeter knowing we weren't having to pay for the rings for a few more years.

Now... I just gotta put it in there that some gals are all about the 'bling'. "You don't love me if you don't buy me that ring for *insert horrendous pricetag*". My sister is like that and they financed a huge gaudy thing just so people will be impressed. If I was a guy, I might really think about if this is the type of gal I'd be wanting to have around with me, ya know? Princess syndrome. I gotta give it to my bro-in-law, I don't know if he'll ever have enough, make enough, keep her happy. She's all about the spending.

WOW, thanks for the overwhelming response! Well here's the update. I did ask her without a ring and she has had no problem showing me the types she was interested in. We found the style she preferred at a great price and no credit card! Thanks again for the help.

                  Re: Need HELP..

We shopped together for a diamond ring - got a smaller stone that we could afford with lesser clarity/color, upgraded it a year later when we had the cash!
After all, your finances will be joined when you wed? So your debt will be her debt... who wants to start out with credit card debt?
