The question is far too vague to answer. There are numerous types of need that call for different types of help.

There are so many kind of "poor" that there isn't a one-size fits all solution.

My wife has been feeding the homeless for two decades now and she is a master's degree in mental health therapy and she says that most, as snafu, says are mentally ill. It's also a vicious cycle, once you're homeless it's difficult to get a job because you need an address to get a job. Additionally, shelters won't let you use their address for work purposes.

Another is generational poverty. People that come out of this have been so mired in poverty and the mentality that goes with it that it's very difficult to move out of that strata. People say that the education to lift themselves out of this is all around them but in many cases it's not.

But the answer lies in some form of education but not in the way we think of it. First you have to teach, from an early age, basic life skills. Waking up and going to work (difficult when you don't see this first hand daily), being on time, being polite (customer service), etc.

Complete aside about politeness, I called a business today to get a quote on tires and at first the quote he gave me was incomplete so I asked him to give me the correct one for studded winter tires. He seemed so put out by this, but the simple act would've made his business an extra 100 dollars—all he had to do was not huff and puff about this ten second task that required more keystrokes.

Upto 80% South Asian organizations are fraud. Do not donate them. Directly donate the UN organization, this is the only way to help them. If you are every much interested to help South Asian children, make direct contact with the student groups via internet/facebook who are working independently or come here directly and transect money by banking channel.Internet banking is very popular and easy to get in Bangladesh. I can name one working in Bangladesh is YPD-facebook.Each and every govt. Official People are rubbers and fraud in SA nemely in India,Bangladesh,Pakistan, Afganistan. I live in Bangladesh and I see no good govt people or big officials around me.

Poor people are the common fair for every country actually they are called poor because they do not able to do any kind of work.Different kinds of organization and government can help the poor.Poverty is getting a most serious problem everywhere. A single person or government alone cannot eradicate it. Depositing money in yearly support funds and making donations to charitable organizations can help reducing poverty. There are a lot of charitable organizations are available in all cities. If you do not trust a person go and visit those organizations you will see the sincerity in their work. When you are motivated for giving donation, deposit it on monthly or yearly basis. Do not be ashamed of paying small money because it involves you intention not your status.

I am very happy to note that you want to help poor people. It becomes our social responsibility to help underpreviledge.Luckiest is the one who has been given so much that after taking care of his/her own needs he is able to help the poor.you can help in many ways (if he is physically fit )help him in such a way so that he is able to earn his own living .Once he earns himself he lives with dignity ,he remain busy also.If its a child u can always sponser him for education or some technical courses.Even if a person is handicapped he can be helped in becoming sales person with minimum investment.Remember when a person earns himself he is confident to face the world. You can't give evry thing in charity. You can always give old clothes ,utensils to them what ever extra you have .There are many ways .Good luck .Keep the good work going.

Everyone who works and generates an income are already donating to the poor. Its called the government.

I dont know any bum/homeless person living on the street who is a trillion dollars in debt. As far as im concerned, they're doing better off than our country is.

Donating any possessions in cash or kind, helping them with education, providing shelter if you can or any other kind of help you think is appropriate for you to do to spread humanity should be done.

How about sponsoring a child through world vision like I do?
I'm sure most people on here are more than able to afford it. I can spare $700 p/a on low income. It astounds me the amount of wealth in western countries as opposed to third world. Yet, most whites overlook this and go through life wearing their rosé coloured glasses, spending their money on their already privileged kids, while African children go without clean water or a bowl of rice.
My sponsor child lives in a mud hut & her mother cooks their food on animal dung. Her father works 18 hour days for a dollar a day.

Since my sponsorship she has started school, which otherwise wouldn't have. And her village has had a well installed so there is fresh drinking water for all.

Why wouldn't you want to help these kids? Forgo buying your own rug rat the latest iPhone & make a difference.

Give them a job to do. If you're anything like me there are plenty of things I'd rather pay someone to do that needs the money rather than do it myself lol.

I think yes, sponsoring their lives and making them a good person who can further do some wonders in life is a very good thing. I appreciate your work GenWhyJ
Also Giving them jobs to work for seems a better idea as they might earn and live life with respect rather than always be depending on somebody to help them.

random acts of kindness can go a long way, Just a few days ago there was a man standing on the site of the street with a sign will work for food, I went to sheets and got him a few hotdogs, and a bag of chips.. not only did i feel good about what i did, he was very grateful.

I am a firm believer in the give a man a fish, teach him to fish adage. I think providing opportunities to develop skills and allow people to pull themselves up is most effective. With that said, it is also important to keep a giving attitude. Small acts of kindness can go a long way as well!

hi i think helping poor is one of the way to thank god whatever he has given us, helping poor depends on person to person if the person is capable of doing work we should motivate him to do some work and helping him by providing some suitable work, if one is old there are many organization that take care of them we can help these organization by giving money.

                                Help The Poor

Never give a poor person money. I did that one time and I came back around to where the guy was sitting on the street and he bought a lighter and cigarettes with the money I gave him. Instead buy food for them or a coat or blanket.
