  • Bought a Bicycle

I've been considering buying a bicycle for years. At first it was to compete in triathlon's, but couldn't get over the price you'd need to pay. Lately it's been to decrease gas usage in my car. There's a donut hole between local places where I'd not want to take time to walk, but is still close that driving seems wasteful, like 2 miles away the library or supermarket.

From reading other blogs, like MMM, they can quickly pay for itself.

The only downside is our neighborhood / area is not biker friendly, narrow roads, high speed limits, lots of hills and stop signs. I'm hoping that it won't be as intimidating from a biking perspective than as a driver seeing bicyclists on the road.

I also work from home, and think in the back of my head it would be nice if we could get by on just one car. I'll have to experiment with only using the bike when my wife is out with the car.

I have been cycling for 20+ years. I avoid streets as much as possible. I had an accident about 13 years ago and broke my collarbone. The individual clipped me by opening the car door. I use bicycle paths at the park which is just a block away. You may have to look for safer choices or avid high traffic streets. Bicycling is great exercise and it helps me clear my head.
