wish i could give more to charity

does anyone feel bad for not giving enough, sometimes none, to charities? i feel bad bec i haven't been making any money lately, not even enough to pay my rent+car+food each month so i've had to be stingy. i mean i know we all want to give more but is it wrong when we don't do ANYTHING to help people out like i'm doing right now?

If you don't have the money then give your time. Many charities need people to volunteer their time to help.

I have been feeling guilty. I donate food, kitchenware and used clothing when there are drives. I have a limited amount budgeted for charity, and am constantly seeking ways to whittle down my other expenditures so I can give a little more while remaining within budget. This year I pledged to help the hungry, and am having difficulty saying "no" to breast cancer runs, and feel trapped when some organization that doesn't have 503(c)(3) federal tax-exempt status calls me on the phone and I have to run to the computer to check them up and ask why they're not on Charity Navigator...

we all go through hard times, but the wheel always turn so when we can spare the extra cash is the time to donate.

There are actually a lot of ways that you can help charities without giving money:

I feel bad about it too. I wish I could help out animal shelters more. I go and pet them.

I am constantly analyzing how much I donate to charity to see if I can give more. There was once a time when I could not afford to donate money or time, because I was a student that worked a full-time job and made very little money. Now that I'm successful, I donate what I can when I can... However, I had to start by giving very little, and then seeing how much of an impact it made upon my monthly expenses. Eventually, you will discover just how much you can give without hurting yourself financially. However, if now is too early due to tight finances, then just wait until your income level increases! Or, simply donate your time to a charitable organization that needs volunteers...

If you really want to do it, set aside a percentage of your income and have it automatically deducted. It's a percentage so if you make less you donate less.

You'll feel the hit at first, but soon you won't even notice it. Really.

i worked at a cancer research charity for 6 months, made some cool friends through it too :-) perhaps try something similar, or make a donation like old clothes?

I'm starting to make some scarfs for charity. Since Red Heart yarn is really cheap I've been working with that plus I had some yarn stored away. Also, if you save coupons you can mail your expired coupons to military families. I've been trying to give a little more each year although I'm on a limited budget too.

If you're short on $$, then go through your house and gather all of the "stuff" that you don't need any longer, and donate it to Goodwill/St.Vincent dePaul/Salvation Army/local homeless shelter, etc. Also, as other posters have suggested, most charities are in need of volunteers- your time and talent is a valuable asset to them, too.

Give your time, nothing more valuable than that!

Well i feel the same way too. Mostly because i used to be a sinner. Now i am trying to be a man who devote his life to God and i am trying to do good things for other people instead of myself.
I asked myself : What can i do. I wrote down many projects.
Helping people in need, planting trees, donating to charities and free click to donate sites. Now i designed my own click to donate website but i dont feel better after all. I feel like i must do more and more.

Can you trust those charity organizations you sometimes donate to?
That's the main question for me. Several years ago there was peak of charity collectors ringing on your door and asking you to donate to their cause. They were offering a ticket back as a proof the hole thing is not a fraud. So I did on several occasions only to find out that it actually was a fraud.

Since then, when I decide to donate anything I only do so with honorable organizations that have established their good name over a couple of decades.
