4 Reasons to Stop Delaying Your Next Oil Change

February 2, 2024 by Sam Hayes

An oil change is one of the easiest things that you could do as part of your vehicle maintenance. That said, it has a major role to play in ensuring that your vehicle works properly. There’s also little reason to neglect to work on this task because most cars have a built-in reminder that sends a signal when it’s necessary to do an oil change. To understand more about why you shouldn’t delay your next oil change, keep reading to see four good reasons why this is the case.

1. You Could Void Your Car’s Warranty

As you should know, your vehicle’s warranty is only admissible if certain conditions are met. This means that you need to make sure that you stay within these requirements in order to be covered by the warranty, and one of the requirements is to service your car frequently. Regular service and maintenance will generally include an oil change other fluid change and a top-up. In addition to staying within the warranty coverage by performing oil changes as frequently as you need to, you’ll also keep your car valuable. This is based on the fact that a used car that has a service history is 23% more valuable than one that doesn’t get regular maintenance done.

2. The Engine Loses Efficiency

Another reason why you should stop delaying your next oil change is because doing so leaves oil that’s potentially dirty to circulate through the engine. This is the case for engine oil, and other oils have different repercussions such as allowing the vehicle’s parts to undergo faster wear and tear when they’re either dirty or they’re not at the optimum levels. As far as this is concerned, keep in mind that different car and truck models take varying amounts of oil, but for the most part, engines need five to seven quarts of oil. This information should make it easier for you to keep your vehicle’s engine and other oils at the right levels. With impure oil, the engine of your vehicle isn’t as efficient as it’s been made to be.

3. The Head Gasket Could Blow

Something as simple as an oil change could lead to a stalled car on the highway. That’s because it may cause your gasket to blow, which will leave your vehicle unable to operate. As much as this sounds like a simple issue, it can be quite costly to repair, the details of which depend on your car’s value and age.

In fact, in most cases, you may have to replace the vehicle’s engine because of a blown gasket. This is a costly affair, and it’s one that could leave you thinking about whether to simply replace your vehicle. This is despite the fact that your vehicle may be one of the 9.2 million American vehicles that, according to Zippia, were produced in 2021.

4. The Engine May Fail

As mentioned, you may end up with a failed engine owing to a missed oil change. That’s because clean engine oil helps lubricate the engine and keeps it clean as well. When you go for an oil change, the filter is typically changed because it accumulates dirt over time. If you allow the engine oil to become so dirty that it basically becomes sludge, then you’re generally giving your engine a harder time running and predisposing it to complete failure if things don’t change.

These four reasons why you should stop delaying your oil change should make it more urgent for you to keep up with your vehicle’s oil changes. While it may sometimes feel like an inconvenience and additional use of money to go to your auto mechanic for an oil change, doing so the moment it’s necessary can save you significant hassle. This means that you should find a professional in your area to do this task for you, or try and remember to do it yourself, and you can keep your vehicle in great shape a lot more easily.
