This holiday season, Walmart is making it easier for shoppers to not just get what they need but have purchases delivered straight to their doors. Along with extended delivery hours, the retail giant is adding more delivery windows and increasing the number of delivery-eligible items. If you’re wondering what Walmart’s extended delivery hours for the holidays will be, here’s what you need to know.
Walmart’s Extended Delivery Hours for the Holidays
Walmart locations are extending their delivery times by a full two hours during the holiday season. Now, instead of running from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm local time, deliveries can occur between 8:00 am and 10:00 pm, giving shoppers far more time to receive orders.
Additionally, customers can place orders as late as 6:00 pm for same-day or next-day delivery service. Shoppers will also get more time to amend their orders, ensuring they can request items they may have forgotten with greater ease.
When it comes to the cost of using the extended delivery hours, customers won’t see an upcharge. Instead, regular one-time deliveries will still be between $7.95 and $9.95, and express delivery will cost the typical $10 more. Also, Walmart+ members will still get fee-free regular deliveries throughout the season or express-fee-only costs for expedited delivery.
Extra Delivery Windows Thanks to New Spark Driver Feature
A new feature on Spark Driver – the app Walmart uses to coordinate deliveries – customers will have access to extra delivery windows beyond what most locations typically support. The Shopping and Delivery feature will let service providers to show and deliver orders, allowing them to offer support even with traditional time frames are full.
Now, this doesn’t guarantee that a particular time will be available. However, it does increase customers’ access to time slots, making it easier to schedule deliveries during what may be a particularly busy time of the year.
More Delivery-Eligible Items During the Holidays
Typically, delivery wasn’t available for oversized items like televisions and bicycles. However, Walmart is adding over 2,800 more products to its delivery-eligible list during the holidays, allowing customers to have larger products brought to their door.
Additionally, the number of stores that can support alcohol delivery (as well as pickup) was increased. In total, around 1,500 Walmart locations will be able to deliver alcoholic beverages. Additionally, pickup is an option at about 3,000 stores.
Walmart Delivery on Thanksgiving Day
While Walmart’s extended delivery hours for the holidays are a boon for shoppers, it’s important to note that delivery isn’t available on Thanksgiving Day. In 2021, Walmart has decided to close its stores for the holidays. As a result, no in-person shopping, order pickups, or deliveries will occur on that day.
Additionally, delivery won’t be available until 12:00 pm local time on Black Friday (Friday, November 26, 2021). The same goes for curbside pickup services.
However, the standard delivery and pickup hours are available on the day before Thanksgiving (Wednesday, November 24, 2021). If you may need a last-minute item, as long as there is a timeslot available, you can get it on the day before Thanksgiving without having to go into the store. However, if the slots are full, in-person shopping might be your only option.
If you don’t mind shopping in-person on Black Friday, that could let you get an item you need before the delivery or pickup options are available. Store doors will open at well before delivery times are available. However, it may be a bit hectic as that’s when a slew of Black Friday deals with be available. As a result, if you aren’t interested in shopping the sale, you may want to arrive a bit later to avoid a potential rush.
