How To Win the Albertsons Monopoly Game in 2018

By , February 12th, 2018 | 17 Comments »

Attention, shoppers: It’s not impossible to win the Albertsons Monopoly game in 2018.

Indeed, some shoppers are already boasting that they have all the basic tickets for 2018 — that’s what posts say in online forums, where people are trading in order to increase their chances of winning.

Although the odds of actually winning the Grand Prize for the 2018 Albertsons’ Monopoly game seem like a long shot, there are loads of additional prizes that might make the impossible become possible.

Who Won and How?

Last year, the Grand Prize winner, April Carrington, of West Bridgewater, Mass., revealed how she won — this was after she was presented with the check for $1 million in a ceremony at the Albertsons at 45 William T Morrissey Blvd, Dorchester, MA on June 22, 2017.

Carrington had actually shopped at Shaw’s and Star Market in Massachusetts — owned by the same company as Albertsons, Market Stores, which owns 2,035 different stores with a total of 18 different brand names indicating a history of mergers and acquisitions.

But to get back to how Carrington won, she improved her odds by entering the online drawings. That is entered dozens of online sweepstake codes from her 2017 Monopoly Collect and Win game tickets she collected at the stores where she shopped. One of those codes was randomly selected in the Last Chance drawing and earned her the top prize.

How a Previous Year’s Winner Did It

The story of previous year’s Grand Prize winner provides further insights. In 2012, an El Paso Community College student named Melissa Varela swooped up the $1 million cash prize of the Collect and Win game by shopping at the 9111 Dyer Albertsons Market in El Paso.

At the time, she was the only million-dollar winner since the contest began in 2009. Prior to Valera, the last grand prize was awarded in the promotion’s first year to a Los Lunas, NM couple who won a $500,000 mortgage payoff.

Varela increased her chances by accepting tickets and increasing the amount of times she shopped each week. She may have only shopped at one Albertsons location, but others have seen much success in the form of free grocery goodies by shopping at multiple sites.

“Like All of Us in Our Store Won”

Varela left a northeast El Paso Albertsons store with a $1 million check.

The Store Director, Abel Olivas, said, “Giving a great customer like Melissa the Grand Prize in our Monopoly game is just a fantastic way for us to close out the promotion this year. When someone like Melissa wins such a big prize, it’s like all of us in our store here won. We couldn’t be happier for her.”

The announcement of her winning was the end of May, but participants had until June 12 to check any remaining tickets and claim prizes.

So, despite the early announcement of her winning, there were still chances of retrieving some of the other larger prizes.

In fact, by the end of the contest, two more large cash prizes were awarded. John Segura of Santa Fe, NM and Kim Proulx of Lake Havasu City, AZ both won $40,000 and Mesa, AZ resident Andrew Jay Moore won $50,000.

Commit Big to the Albertsons Monopoly Game

The moral of the story: If you’ve made the decision to play the 2018 Albertsons Monopoly  game, you need to commit big.

Making regular visits to the participating stores and collecting as many tickets as possible seems to be the best bet; at least, that is what worked for Melissa. Luck definitely plays a role but so does consistency.

This is not to say this is a guaranteed way to win, but as the old saying goes, “Go big, or go home.”

Readers, are you going to play the Albertsons Monopoly game this year — and at which stores?
