If you do your banking at a credit union you may be wondering whether your union will be open on Veterans Day or not. Most credit unions follow the same holiday schedule as banks. On Veterans Day most credit unions will be closed but some regional locations may remain open. If you bank at a credit union you should check with your specific location to see if they will be open on Saturday.
Even though the majority of banks and credit unions will not be open on Nov. 11, it does not mean that you cannot do any banking on Veterans Day. With computer technology, most customers rarely visit their bank branch now. Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) and banking apps are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Most banking customers will be able to do the majority of their regular banking transactions on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017, even though the banks are closed. Deposits and withdrawals can be made at ATMs. Deposits can also be made via the banking institution’s app. Bill payments can be made through the bank’s app or online banking.
Customers should remember that although they are able to perform banking transactions on Veterans Day, those transactions will not post to their account until the next banking day. Transactions will take a day longer to process because of the holiday. If a bill payment is scheduled, the bank will not begin processing payment on Veterans Day. The bank will begin processing payment on the next banking day. Also, depending on your bank’s funds availability policy, a check deposited on Veterans Day may not be available immediately and will not be processed until the next banking day. For example, if your bank makes deposits available the next business day a check deposited on Veterans Day will be available on Monday.
Are Banks and Credit Unions Open The Day Before Veterans Day
Veterans Day is on a Wednesday this year. Banks and credit unions will be open regular business hours on Thursday, Nov. 9 and Friday, Nov. 10. They will reopen for regular business hours on Monday, Nov. 13, the next business day after the holiday. For many banks, this won’t differ from their regular weekly schedule. If you’re curious about a specific location, give them a call and ask about their Veterans Day hours.
