Matthew David McConaughey was born on November 4, 1969 in Ulvade, Texas. His mother, Mary Kathleen, is a former kindergarten teacher and a published author.¬†His father, James Donald McConaughey, ran an oil pipe supply business. Matthew grew up in Texas and attended high school and college there. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in the spring of 1993 with a degree in Radio-Television-Film.
McConaughey began his career working on television commercials. His first speaking role was in a commercial for the Austin-American Statesman (an Austin-based newspaper). He played a role in several other TV commercials before he was cast to utter¬†the ever-so-famous line, “alright, alright, alright” in Richard Linklater’s “Dazed and Confused.” The rest is history. Since then McConaughey has played both minor and major roles in films such as “Angels in the Outfield,” “Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation,” “Boys on the Side,” “Amistad,” “The Wedding Planner,” “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” “Failure to Launch,” “Dallas Buyers Club,” “Interstellar” and many other films.
In addition to his career on the big screen McConaughey has also voiced many radio campaigns. He provided voiceover for a radio campaign for the Peace Corps in 2006 and healso replaced Sam Elliot in the “Beef: It’s What’s For Dinner” campaign. In 2014, Lincoln Motor Company signed the actor for a multi-year campaign. The commercials became the subject of many comedian’s jokes but the campaign increased Lincoln’s sales by 25 percent one month after the first commercial debuted.

Along with his acting career and promotional contracts, McConaughey also has a number of assets that contribute to his net worth.
He and is wife Camila and their three children own a mansion in scenic Austin, Texas. The couple purchased the home for $4 million and the property has increased in value to $6 million since they’ve resided there. When the couple is not in their Austin home they are using McConaughey’s travel bus to see the world. He also owns a Lincoln MKX, GMC Yukon,¬†1971 Corvette and a 1981 Camaro.
