If you’re planning a trip for the long Labor Day weekend and you want to make it something truly special, choose a destination known for giving you the most fun for the lowest fare. These U.S. cities are top travel destinations for a reason. Here’s what each destination offers.
1. New York City
The Big Apple is always a memorable trip. Manhattan is usually (relatively) quiet on the weekends (workers commute back to Jersey). This gives you a little more room to explore what the city has to offer. Shows, shopping, museums and even plain old sightseeing can become amazing experiences you simply can’t get anywhere else. Take time for Times Square, Central Park, the Empire State Building, One World Observatory and moreĀ one-of-a-kind destinations.
2. Las Vegas
Looking for a place to sneak off to with your significant other? Las Vegas is the place. It’s great fun and because you have access to 24-hour entertainment, you can squeeze more out of a Vegas vacation than just about any place on earth. Now that’s value. You can go skydiving in an indoor wind tunnel, race exotic cars, go horseback riding in the desert and more.
The temperature is high in Miami from June to September, so it’s not very busy on Labor Day. That makes it an affordable beach getaway. No matter what the time of year, Miami is still Miami, with the bright, eclectic culture the city is known for. Take a day to chill on Miami Beach. Take a day to steep yourself in Cuban culture in Little Havana. Miami also offers several parks and zoos for a family vacation full of wonder.
This is the perfect time of year to be in Seattle, where the temperatures are mild and the tourists are thinning out. The laid back and friendly atmosphere leaves you in the right state of mind. Popular activities include bicycling, coffee tasting and shopping at Pike Place Market. Checkout the view from the top of the Space Needle, wander the Olympic Sculpture Park or stop by Boeing for the “Future of Flight” exhibit.
Chicago is another city that’s perhaps at its best in September. It’s not too hot, but the cold is still a month off. Chicago has some of the best restaurants and museums in the world. The skyscrapers and oceanfront make for great sightseeing. With over 500 parks, more than 225 music venues and 465 stores in the shopping district, you’ll find plenty to do there.
Any one of these cities would make a memorable Labor Day weekend. The only question now is… which one will you choose?
