Default $500k

Looking for ways to make money with 500K. Thinking of quitting my job and starting a business but can't think of any good ideas.

Can anyone think of what they would do if they had $500k?

I'd look into buying a Dunkin Donuts franchise.

I don't think I'd just jump in and start a business if I didn't have a niche to fill and the experience to do it. So many businesses fail in teh first year that its not going to be an investment if you don't know how to manage it.

What's wrong with investing the traditional way? Or investing in someone elses business by funding their start up if they have a solid plan and the means to carry it out?

What are you investing for? Retirement? If so, how long til retirement?

A nice Belgian style beer pub/bar. St. Bernardus 12, Gulden Draak, Orval, Cantillon and Drie Fonteinen on tap. Nice patio/beer garden and some decent food.

That's my dream.

Most successful small buisness owners have a sincere passion for what They're doing. It isn't so much about making money as living a dream. Failure is an obstacle to overcome. You might lose some or all of the original investment and you likely will work your butt off to keep things afloat but that's nothing new. Investing is definitely safer and easier in my observation.

Honest with 500k why jump into the risk of a business. Buy a property in full for 250k and live off the rental income. Put the other 250k in something safe generating a little interest.

i agree with the rental income, look at my sig line. rental homes are a business, better than ANY brick and mortar business you could possibly dream of - with a fraction of the risks associated with a real business.

make sure to run your numbers and check out the rental market. the market you reside in may not be the best choice for a rental market, look up to a 50-60 mile radius for your target market, anything further and its hard to keep touch on it. i would stay away from big multi unit buildings and look for duplex/triplex and single family homes.

that 500K is more than enough to retire on, im living proof.

never that

you will be a slave to #1 dunkin, #2 the landlord and #3 the business itself

once again with a rental you are enslaved to NO ONE, the tenant is in essence your slave.
