Do Chores for an Elderly Neighbor

Seniors often are in need of lots of help around the house, whether it's some odd repair job or just pruning the hedges. If you know your neighbors, they may be much more inclined to give you the job rather than hire a stranger. Let them know you're looking for work. To further sweeten the pot, offer a discount if they hire you, say 15% off of what they'd typically pay a professional. (If they don't know the going rate, then of course you should be prepared with a reasonable price.) Make it a win/win situation: your elderly neighbor gets a discount on what they'd otherwise pay someone to do something, and you get an opportunity to make some cash.

That's a good idea, although some may be more inclined to hire professionals who carry insurance or are bonded, depending on the job, of course.
