I've been writing for about 20 years and my only issues with freelancing is the building business aspect. I finally figured out that answering questions well on sites that have google adwords/adsense figured in (like web answers.com) works pretty well.

Blogging is OK too. If you can find something you are passionate about, blog and then you can advertise on the blogs. Then you're in control

Freelance writing is OK but for me, I find that I am more in control when I write then draw attention to my words and use my words to send people to places where they can invest...

But you've got to have the talent to write to become a freelance writer. I know people who can barely write an email to their clients. English is going down the dumps in this country

It really takes some time till you have got that grip over the words and that flow of thoughts out of your pen onto the paper.Freelance writers do have a good payout but after some months of effort is put in.

Freelance writing has different areas to it: blogging, editing, web copywriting, academic writing, technical writing, SEO writing, etc. Choose where you are an expert at. because yep, as they say, competition is tough. I'd say web copywriting has a lot of money to it. And academic writing, too (this is a type of writing where you write thesis, dissertations, essays, and academic papers for students of any level who are either too lazy or too busy to write their own).

well I don't prefer doing freelancing, I think it would still be best if you are working for a single company. That will make me earn more money.

Well, freelance writing will still be a helpful sideline. Besides, you can make it as flexible as you want to accommodate a regular job.
