I have gotten 2 speaking engagements as a result of my blog. I had forgotten about that until an above post mentioned a book deal as a result.

Here's my honest take on what you need to do to make money blogging:

you can earn from blogging even if you do not use or place an adsense. In blogging you can promote your product where you can get possible customers to buy your product. So if you blog you can do both, enjoy the fun in blogging and earn from it.

There are many people who are making money blogging but it isn't easy. You do have to invest quite bit of time in promoting and building up your blog. But it doesn't have to be costly because you can get a free blog from blogger or wordpress...a great way to test the waters. I myself am blogging to help pay my debt off and hope to succeed.

Content is definitely the key.
I have been blogging for almost 1.5 years now and I would say that it is SO much simpler to just earning money working part time instead of blogging. However, blogging gives me a deep sense of satisfaction especially when you feel that you are connecting with others on topics of your interests. There is also a common misconception that blogging is passive income... It is definitely not so. You will have to pour in lots of hours to make some money. When you calculate it by how much each blog post is worth, you might not even want to explore blogging as an option. On the other hand, if you are truly passionate about blogging, then the money that comes with it is an added benefit |

I am just starting up 2 different Blog sites, both oriented toward selling books. I anticipate spending a lot of time marketing the sites before they become self-supporting and financially profitable.

Lots of great thoughts, feedback, links to articles, etc. I am beginning to spend more time writing, promoting, etc.
What do you think of my blog so far? findinspirationtoday.com » Find Inspiration & Personal Development Today. I am in the process of developing a project that I can creatively write about, document, and people can follow along with and feel a sense of involvement - but I simply haven't yet came up with an idea that I'm really excited about. |

No doubt, blogging has recently gained lot of momentum as a way to make money online.
Few things that will make a blog successful are: -A Narrow niche where you can provide readers with useful content -Regular posts with new information -Promoting your blog through forums, participating in discussion, leaving comments in others blogs etc -Creating an online presence for yourself and also the blog -Generate traffic to your site by SEOs etc -Add affiliate products to your site that arerelated to your niche and convince your readers to use those products. I recently started a new blog and still learning the basics. Bheem Last edited by jeffrey : 12-15-2009 at 09:55 PM. |

If you're going to try to make any money from blogging, even just a little bit of money, I recommend signing up for an affiliate program. A few of the ones I am just learning to use are: Commission Junction, Clickbank, Amazon.com and Low-Stress Income.
With Commission Junction, I think the companies have to accept you based on your blog content. I've been accepted by a couple dating websites like Match.com. Other companies just find you, like Blockbuster did. ps. I agree with you mickeylily.... the more and more people start blogging, the harder it will be to make money, if at all. Besides, who would manufacture our consumer products if everyone started blogging?? I'm not a fan of Clickbank, but apparently a lot of people use it. It seems like it would involve some article marketing, which I just don't have time for because basically you're promoting landing pages, and I just don't feel comfortable promoting products I would use, but can't because I don't have money. I recently signed up for Amazon.com and that seems like it'd be a money maker since I like to read so much. I can write book reviews and who ever uses my affiliate link to buy the book, I'd make a percentage of the sale I guess. Lastly is Low-Stress Income which allows you to host banner ads, much like Commission Junction. If you use WordPress, I recommend an ad manager plugin like OIO Publisher that helps you with ad placement and rotating ads and what not. |

Yes, that's what I used to think too. But what I have realized is that on the internet, quality and only quality can become successful. Every tom, dick and harry can start a blog, but only those who truly know what they are talking about and provide good information, can survive.
