  • Find Kim now!

For internet geeks out there, you're probably already watching this intently, with bated breath. But for those who don't know, one of Cnet.com's senior editor, James Kim, has been missing for more than a week.

He, his wife, and his two young children were traveling through an isolated road in Oregon when their station wagon slid off and got stuck. For 8 days, they kept warm by running the car at night. And when they ran out of gas, they burned the car tires.

About two days ago-- I guess when they finally ran out of options-- James Kim went off to get help, while the wife and two kids stayed behind.

Throughout this time, a massive manhunt has been underway, and the good news is that they just located the wife and children! Despite having been out there for more than a week, the family is reported to be in good health.

Unfortunately, James Kim is still unaccounted for, but the search continues.

Update: At this time, they have a website up for anyone who wants to the latest update or leave well-wishes. LINK

Saw this on the AM news. She was resourceful in keeping warm though desperate (burning the tires at night!, toxic).

You guys beat me to it.

                  How very sad indeed.

I hope somewhere, somehow, he can take comfort in knowing that his family is safe... and that his efforts were not in vain.

They have brought him here to the town where I live...So very, very sad.

He was, indeed, a hero who was trying to save his family....My thoughts are sure with the family.

I can remember following the little girl in the well here in Texas and the relief and joy when they got her out, and then the poor miners last year that didn't make it. We had hoped for a happy ending here. Such a sad thing. My heart goes out to their families.

                        Re: Find Kim now!

There is already a lot of chatter about making charity donations to the Kim family... which I intend to participate. However, there's nothing official that I know of at this time.

On a related note, please be careful with bogus scams masquerading as charities. Lots of that happened during the Katrina aftermath, for example.

Anyway, if I find out anything, I'll share it here.

It truly is a sad thing. Life is so precious and you never know from one day to the next. I shall keep Mr.Kim and his family in my prayers.

                            Re: Find Kim now!

The Kims has officially sanctioned a charity donation through PayPal. The link can be found on their website.

We are applying to setup a ScholarShare 529 account for each girl. Checks made out to "Fidelity Brokerage Services LLC" can be sent to the CNet address below for deposits into that account, but they must be at least $25 per the Fidelity rules.
