Re: Tracking savings before and after learning from Flash

I live on a small fixed income, share an apartment with my sister and am paying off two loans and some debt.

I was searching the web one day and came across "Flash's Blog",this site and got inspired.I was looking for ways to stretch what money I have, that was about 5 months ago.

Since them I now coupon, stockpile and do rebates.

I'm slowly buiding a stockpile, something as kids we never had.No more bare cupboards.

I have a small freezer, though I have trouble protecting stuff from freezer burn. I'll have to start a thread for help with that.

My best savings happen when I can combine a great coupon with the perfect sale, for instance this week at Shaw's Wish-bone dressing was 3/$5.

      I bought 5 16oz bottles and 1 spritzer.

      6 bottles=$10
      6 .60/1 coupons-doubled=$7.20
      $10-$7.20=$2.80
      $2.80-$3.99 rebate for spritzer= +$1.19
      $1.19 + I recieved a save $4 on yor next order catalina=$5.19

So in the end I will make $5.19 on this deal.

I just love it.!!!!!! Thanks Flash

        Hi A,

I just read the thread and love it,I don't keep track as well as you do. I do know that I am up to saving at least $35-$40 weekly.

I also have the trouble of not being able to print coupons,I guess if I had a printer it would help (LOL). I have called and emailed the company saying so and have pretty much recieved the offer via snail-mail.

        Take care !!!!

            Hi A,

I think most companies will send you coupons if they are offering a promotion.

I usally say that it wouldn't print because I use an older browser,a small white lie. I do use an outdated browser that wouldn't work even if I had a printer.

            Companies I've contacted are:

Nestle Baking: they offered a $2.00 Q-pon and they sent me 4- .55/1 morsel Q-pons

            Pedigree Dog Food $1/1
            ------
            Viva Paper Towels .35/1
            -----
            Scott's TP .50/1(2)
            -------
S.C.Johnson Power Pads Lantern Buy 1 Get 1 half off or free not sure.
            ------
Gorton's Shrimp Temptations $1.00 called this one this am

That's all I can think of right now, very poor memory.(LOL)

I did call some comapnies. They sent me coupons. I have put some on the train.
Good for you. This gives you an edge over other couponers.

                  Sorry,
I'm from Fall River,Massachusetts. The home of Lizzie Borden and the Big Mamie.

The Big Mamie is a WII battleship that was actually saved from demolition by school children saving their pennies to help preserve it.

Lizzie Bordern is the gal who took an axe and gave her Father Fourty wacks.
Great for the tourist industry. (LOL)

Re: Tracking savings before and after learning from Flash

I met someone who deals with QA?QC of software. She fished out a coupon while her hubby kept saying they would be late.
I knew i saw a friend in her when she wiped a smudge on my kid's cheek, along with her son and hubby's person. All this happened in the park. She depends on her family for coupons.
I told her about Flash and showed her my reciepts from last weeks shopping.
She said that she knew about Flash and that she could not join a train because she worked 10 hours min. But she loved Flash's blog and reads it often. We bonded over Dr.F. Our spouses bonded over the coupon clutter we create.
But one thing has remained unsaid: I did not have this many couponing friends before Dr.F
(How can you put a price on that: A new friend who adores my daughter and wants to exchange coupons with me! She was visiting her in laws and will drive back to IL soon.)

Re: Tracking savings before and after learning from Flash

I'll post my bit of it:

Before I met flash I had already started trading coupons. But I was in an online group where we swapped two or three at a time and the postage was adding up. Then I met flash.

I got on a train and all of a sudden for a much smaller amount in postage I had access to hundreds of coupons I needed. She also taught me how to collect coupons. I had no idea you could get them from the companies directly, or all over the grocery store! And then the peelie thieving began... Now I am on two trains, and I have 6 friends and family members collecting and clipping coupons for me. I also supply them with the coupons they need, and have saved us all a ton of money. On average I'd say I distribute about $15 in savings to each friend each time the train comes through. The in return give me about $50-$75 in coupons to put on the train for the other 4-6 people on the train whon live elasewhere and have different needs!

                            Some examples:
I have a friend who can't get claritin D coupons here (they just don't put them in our market) But I was able to give her about $12 of them a month and save her a lot on her meds. She says when I stop by her office to drop off coupons: "It's almost like Christmas!"

The other day my store was doing BOGO on the 50ct one-a-days. The 100cts had $2 off peelies. I can a coupon from flash for $4 refund if you bought two. So I bought on 50ct at $10 and for the other one free, I stole two peelies (flash's idea) off the 100ct ones and they gave me and additional $4 off. Then I mailed in the rebate. So I paid $2 for $20 worth of vitamins!

My grandma won't use coupons (or very rarely) but I take her shopping once a week. We have started competing to see who can save the most money. This week she spent $16 on 11 items and saved $6. I spent $16 on 12 items and saved $30. (So I got $45 worth for $16!!! including two big packs of steaks!) This happens every week!

                            Thanks Flash!

Thank you Wodaking. I too was couponing before I read about flash's experiences.
I wish all train members would post here.
Thank you so much for sharing your shopping trip details (the one with your grandma).
