One I didn't like: The Millionaire Next Door. It basically was okay the first chapter and then it repeated itself over and over and over and over and over again. you get the picture. I borrowed and am so glad that I did not buy it. The body of the book: Don't spend more than you have, don't buy expensive suits, cars, watches, etc., cut coupons, watch your spending. I already know all that! I will try some of the books listed above though

I love that book! Dry - yes. But lots of interesting information to me. I loved the stats. I can totally see people hating that book though - honestly

It was probably my own fault. I was looking more for a guide to becoming a millionaire and that is not what it was about. I have not given up though!! I will keep searching. I have learned more from these boards than I did in that book though. I didn't know that the light company had Peak and non peak hours. I knew that it heated up the house though. but I love these boards!!

The Wealthy Barber - it's written like a novel and I actually laughed a time or two while reading it. Good, solid persoanl finance basics without the dry reading.

Not necessarily in this order but:
                1. Cashing in on the American Dream - How to retire at 35 by Paul Terhorst (this is kind of dated now but it really started me dreaming!)
                2. Your Money Matters by Malcolm MacGregor
                2. Make your paycheck last by Harold Moe
                3. Rich on any income - James P. Christensen and Clint Combs with George Durrant (this one really got us started on working together on our budget!)
                4. Wealth without risk - Charles Givens
                5. Total Money Makeover - Dave Ramsey
                6. Get out of Debt and stay out by Jerry ?
                7. How to Survive without a Salary by Charles Long
                8. Can't remember the names but the Mary Ann Hunt books (about Freedom accounts)

                  1. The Total Money Makeover (D. Ramsey)
                  2. Financial Peace (D. Ramsey)

Nothing ever made sense about how to win at the debt game until I read these two books. Now I understand how to do it and am working hard to get out of debt.

                    Re: Top 10 Money Books

These lists are great... so many of these books I've not come across yet, so I'm busy writing down new titles.

I think my number one choices are books by Dave Ramsey, I've read both and he really started me on the debt snowball.

I've read books by Suze Orman and if you watch her TV Show, her no nonsense approach comes through in her books.

I also have read books by Glinda Bridgforth and Gail Perry-Mason and Lois Center-Shabazz (you can look them up on Amazon)

Although I find that most financial books are basically the same thing over and over and over again, its good to read it, get it in my head and keep it there.

I was wondering when someone would mention Financial Peace! The only reason it is not on my list is that I read it so long ago and before I was really ready to get out of debt. Now I want to read it again and last night I won the bid on this book on ebay! Also bought the workbook from half.com. Can't wait to get them!

I read Financial Peace when I was 14 As a result, I've never dealt w/ any of the issues he helps people get out of in that book and, "The Total Money Makeover" - I guess it was preventitive medicine.
