Question HELP!!!!! My chewy granola bars are not chewy :(

I have been having alot of problems with this recipe I have been using to make chewy granola bars but everytime I make them they are not chewy they are crumbly I want to be able to make the ones like they have in the store. I just can't afford wheat germ. Here is the recipe I am using is there anyway to tweek it to get it chewy? I have already tried adding another egg and adding extra baking powder.

1/2 cup Margarine, softened
1 cup light brown sugar
1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 T Honey
1/2 t vanilla exract
1 egg
1 t ground cinnamon
1/2 t salt
1 1/2 cup Oats
1 1/4 crisp rice cereal
1 cup raisins or semi-sweet chips(i only use milk chocolate don't like semi-sweets) (I also put in some peanut butter chips)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a mixing bowl cream margarine and sugars. Add Honey, vanilla, and egg, mix well. Combine dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture. Stir in oats and cereal. Add raisins or chocolate chips. Press into a greased 13x9x2 inch baking pan. Bake 25 to 30 Mins or until top is lightly browned.

2 dz bars

ok that is the recipe I got off the internet awhile ago. I have not been able to get 24 bars from it either. just 12. Anyway anyone can help?! thanks in advance.

I dunno anything about granola, but I think to make cookies chewier your suposed to add milk? (if I were making it I might try the sweetened condensed milk)

The only other thought I had is I refuse to cook with oats, I always have the wrong 'version' quick oats and I need oldfashioned or something. Dunno if it makes a difference though.

well your going in the right direction at least
try using less of the chocoalte? or oats, trying to think scientifically here and not having much luck. Not the chemist in the family.
