My DS is in a church program and will need to bring something for about 23 children to eat as a snack. Because there are two children in the program with severe peanut allergies, I cant buy/bring anything with peanuts or processed in a place that processes peanuts. (I am not upset about this I just want to be extra careful because of the possible outcome if I am not)
.I really don't want to make cookies because I would like it to be a little healthier but yet child friendly....Dont want my kid becoming the "his mommy brought yucky treats" kid. Also he starts kindergarten in the fall and I know I will need Ideas for then because the peanut allergy problem seems to get worse and worse each year. I am afraid to buy something off the shelf because of all the chemical names nut/peanut products can be labeled under. Does anyone have any ideas of recipes that would be a good snack and still be frugle on my budget? I thank you for your ideas. |

I usually make muffins when I want a cool but not sugary treat. (make em all kinds all a varieties. Just take the basic formula then adjust for what I am in the mood.
Or if I cannot bake (no time, not feeling good whatever) I bring grapes or cheese or both. So far most kids devour both. |

How about strawberries, apple slices, tangerine slices, etc? If you are not the only one bringing a snack, I think it is likely there will be things sweeter than fruit from someone else.

I like the idea of muffins, I really like chocolate chip....Yep said I wanted something not sweet but muffins are not like a cookie or frosted cupcake so I think chocolate chip muffins would be good.
I will need to check the stores....chocolate chips are currently on sale & I think I have a coupon at home. I just have to make sure they are not made in a factory that processes nuts. Blueberry would be my second choice but I worry about stains. IF I cant do Chocolate chip because I cant find Choclate chips not processed in a factory that processes peanut products. What is another good flavor for children. I would buy a mix but then I am afraid of the processing factor again. The church tells you the week before that you need to bring them for the following week. And you bring them for all the children in the group your child is in, there are like 5 groups but they dont share food. Since it is on a Wednesday I am normally not feeling like cooking on Tuesday night. I would love something that could be made on Sunday or Saturday and still be fresh by Wednesday. Thanks for the suggestions |

I make these yummy and simple muffins. I use brown sugar instead of white and I add in a tsp of vanilla and a dash of cinnamon to the batter. They come out way yummy. And, because they have a "flavor", they don't need any add-ins (choc chips or whatever).

I think I will go with the muffins, and use this modification for the Church snack. I checked my chocolate chips at home and they were made in a factory that makes products that contain peanuts and nut products. Please keep the idea coming. . Thanks for all the ideas so far.
