Default Raw Food Vegan recipes

I have a friend who is coming from Miami this weekend with her husband, they are staying with us for a few days and just informed me they are now raw food vegans. Any ideas about recipes, particularly for main dishes as I really don't want to have to cook two entirely seperate main dishes....thanks

Well, you wouldn't really be "cooking", per se....hehe. All kidding aside, that is really sweet of you to give it a shot!! I have a raw foods cookbook but I haven't made too much out of it. I should really pull it out and see if anything catches my eye. I think the key will be to have lots of produce and fresh fruit around the house.

Good luck!!

To what extreme are they carrying it? I've heard of some who ONLY eat raw fruits and veggies--won't eat any dairy products.

If they do dairy, this is one I do that may fit into their likes. Can be used as snack or desert. Make a pizza crust or use crosant dough smashed down to form a pizza crust. Bake it. When cool, spread with cream cheese-either plain or flavored. Top off with small diced peices of raw veggies--I use radish, peas, brocholli, cauliflur, carrots.
I have also made the same but with fruits, using yogurt instead of cream cheese.

If they really are doing a raw vegan diet, though, they won't eat the crust because it has been baked.

Vegans (in general) don't eat any animal products, including dairy products and eggs. Tofutti does make a good dairy-free cream cheese, though, and Silk makes soy yogurt.

I'm guessing that if they are following a strict raw food diet, they won't eat that stuff either, though, because it has been processed.

I hope they will help you out once they arrive! I imagine they will...it's a pretty strict diet, and it takes a lot of dedication.

Yes, the more I read about it, the more I am unsure how to proceed....DH is not particularly thrilled at this turn of events. We are going to buy a lot of fruits, vegetables and nuts and I found a few recipes to use from the list Kashi so generously posted. However, it looks like I'll be stuck cooking for DH and trying to come up with something for them to eat as well, hopefully they will help out. We would have liked to take them out for dinner one night, but it looks like that is out. We live in a fairly small town with one vegetarian (but not Vegan) restaurant...hmmm, it will be interesting.

I think that is a great plan. Try not to stress about it. I think anyone who follows a restricted diet (chosen or not) has to be prepared by bringing food or preparing it themselves (myself included!). The fact that you are making an effort is really sweet. I know I really appreciate the support I've gotten from friends and family.

I've never actually met anyone who followed the raw food diet, but I've heard that if it's done correctly, they have incredible skin.

Have fun with your friends and try not to concentrate too much on the food piece!

overall fairly well. some of the recipes called for ingredients I was unfamililar with or could not find. A few of the dishes were very good and I'll make them again, a few were very bland for DH and I. They seemed happy though and were very good about whipping up their own breakfast and lunch, so it was a great visit overall. Thank you for all the pointers

Oh, I forgot to add they have been following the diet for about 6 months now and they are both trim (he used to be a little portly) and their skin does look great!
