2 minute trail mix
Trail mix is something I used to buy, until I figured out how easy it was to make - and it used up all those little odds and ends that sometimes went to waste. Here's the recipe I used last night. In the time you can grab something off the shelf and throw it in a bowl, you can have a large batch of trail mix made exactly to your liking!
From the cereal cupboard: two handfuls of Cheerios
From the snack cupboard: two handfuls of stick pretzels, crushed a little to break up the pieces
a shake of dry roasted peanuts from the container
a shake of sunflower seeds
a handful of dried cranberries
From the baking cupboard: a handful each of chocolate and butterscotch chips
Toss in a Tupperware bowl, put the lid on, and shake. We ate all of this up last night, so I made a new batch this morning. My kids absolutely love it. Some other things I have used:
-any type of cereal, from Rice Chex to Kashi Mighty Bites (anything that languishes in the cupboard too long and that my kids stopped eating!)
-baking chips (white chocolate, peanut butter, etc.)
-nuts, any kind
-Goldfish crackers
-any dried fruit
-M&Ms, other small candies
Have fun with it!

Trail mix is a major staple here, we always mix it up fresh..otherwise I wont eat the peanuts, they are always stale store bought IMO....

We buy the rice cracker mix from Sam's - 3lbs for about $7. I add nuts, m&ms, dried fruit (mostly stuff that I dehydrate), chips, cereal, raisins, crasins, wasabi peas (I buy those in 20 lb bags- we eat so many), soy nuts, little cookies like graham bears, and whatever else is on the shelf. We go through literally tons of this stuff.

that sounds awesome, i just emailed it to dh' puter to print off. I think ill add one thing to the mix, at the dollar tree, my kids fave treat is the dried pineapple chips, i think it would go great.
for a light snack, ive always mixed, colored small marshmellows, raisins, and gummy bears with real fruit juice. kids love it too. light snack inbetween meals.

leggzz66- Yes, I have used that dehydrated pineapple from Deals or Dollar Tree. They also have dried mango and a bag of assorted nuts and m&m type pieces. This last batch I added Life cereal ( found on clearance for $1.25)with chocolate bits. Some types If I find baking chips like chocolate or butterscotch on clearance I will to see those in, too. But, if I add chocolate, I have to remember not to let it sit in the car.

This last batch I made I threw in Whopper easter eggs! We never eat the right holiday products for the right holiday! LOL!! We also like those sesame sticks. I make a 6 lb or so container (the largest lock and lock) at a time. My husband loads up a yogurt cup with the mix. He likes that the yogurt cup fits in the cup holder and he can eat it while he is driving. I used to pack it in snadwich zip bags. He likes this method a lot better.
