Default Want to boil an egg?

Place about a tablespoonful of water in a small saucepan, with an egg. Put the lid on. Bring to the boil (a very short time), switch off and allow to stand for about 4 minutes. Voila, a boiled egg. You'll need to experiment to get exact figures for your appliance.

No, I didn't believe it either, until I tried it.

Savaquid.

Mom taught me to put eggs in a pot of water, bring to a boil, cover and turn off the burner. Leave the eggs alone until you can put your hand in the water. When the water cools off they are hard-cooked and ready to peel.

Everybody does it different, and we all end up with boiled eggs! I think I will go hard boil a few and make some egg salad. Yum.

Thanks for the tip, Savasquid! I'm going to try it.

We do the same thing with pasta. Boil the water, add the pasta, let it come back to a boil, cover, and turn off the heat. Stir every few minutes. It doesn't take any longer to cook. I learned this from one of the Tightwad Gazette books.

i learned alot of things from amy, from the tightwad gazette... i
used to get her newsletters, and i own all of the books...fyi i
spoke to the manager of the dairy dept. of our kroger and he told
me eggs will keep for 3 months if they are kept cold... we have
tried this and it works...so, when eggs go on sale, we try to
purchase at least 8 dozen..
