It's a good vegetable dip too, and you can spread it on some pita bread with tomatoes and sprouts for a sandwich.

We make hummus with a bulk powdered mix. Probably not as tasty as fresh, but good.
We love it for sandwiches; thinner, as a mayo substitue for moistness, or thicker, as an actual sandwich ingredient. I like it with carrots and other veggies, steamed or fresh. It's good with scrambled eggs in a bvreakfast burrito. It's good in baked potatoes. If you know anyone trying to get extra protein or leaner protein, it's a nice gift. |

Make a gyros. I know this is past the point but they are good. Warm a pita, spread it with hummus, top with diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce and sliced onions. I like tzatziki on mine. Basically just yogurt, shredded cukes, salt, garlic, pepper, and dill all mixed together like a dressing. Its real good.

It is just chickpeas- put it in salads, use it on baked fish to seal in moisture, a little bit left in the jar?- add it to a soup or cassarole.

I just plain eat it as a snack with pita bread! I sometimes put it inside the pita with string cheese and another middle eastern cheese called eshawen.

This is a nice thread to revive. Oh, I love hummus.
Fill celery stalks with it! A sandwhich that was popular in my circle twenty years ago was hummus spread on toasted bread, then the sandwhich dipped in beaten egg and grilled. The grilled sandwhich was then placed on a plate with seasoned tomato sauce ladeled over it. It is eaten with a knife and fork. |

I am so glad I checked this thread- I have some hummus that I grabbed at the Whole Foods and haven't figured out what to do with it! I have made a sandwich with it, and yes, it's defintately better with tomato, by itself it is rather bland. I like it with a bit of mustard.
Cool beans! Dennis |

I eat it on Wasa Crackers...any kind of crackers really. I also use it on sandwiches instead of mustard or salad dressing. Yummy!!

if you're entertaining, it makes a great dig for crackers served with grapes and cheese (we visted friends of ours and this is the plate she put together of stuff she had in the fridge)
