we are eating leftovers from my eat out dinners and my birthday dinner party... i froze lots of food.... i am adding fresh corn, or salad to the stuff... i am gonna make potato pancakes tomorrow from the left over potatoes, and the rest i will add cheese on top and reheat... we have broccoli stips that will be turned into soup and salad.
left over lasagna will be heated up.. cheddar bisquits will be used with a casserole... we have a wedding and reception on friday, tomorrow... so, things should be gone by sunday, i hope.. we have 3 pieces of cake left too. lots of chocolate ice cream, so, i will make popcorn and milkshakes one nite.

sigh...do I have to cook again? every day? I do cook..every day...b`ut I get soooo tired of it...I think this is my least favorite 'chore'.

Mainly due to things like tonight, we may or may not have company..but I don't know yet...and may not know till they get here (or fail to show...)

I don't plan it for whole week. I see what needs to be eaten so I don't have to throw it away. But I always plan to have at least
1 kind of the soup,
1 either potatoes or pasta or rice,
1 kind of meat ( meatballs, chicken etc)
1 kind of salad.

I usually make bigger batch to last us for 2 days (except for salad). Sometimes it lasts 1 day or 3 days, so I check what else needs to be cooked and cook it.

I hear ya! I pretty much eat whatever is here; I own a catering business, so there are always some leftovers, but never really a balanced "meal". I usually make a salad at work and then add to it....

You are all soooo organized! I am trying to get my menu more organized. I even checked out websites that you can subscribe to and they will send you the menu for the week and the shopping list! I did not subscribe yet but am thinking about it. We usually do chicken, beef and pasta. My family does not like fish and I really don't know how to cook it. With chicken, I usually do a whole chicken, a day of leftovers, then make chicken noodle soup. Will do a beef dish such as hamburgers, steaks, roast, etc. And, pasta usually consists of spaghetti or lasagna. I am not a big fan of pork, so I don't make it very often.

I'm with getforfree...if I plan ahead, there are leftovers, or not enough, or something that needs to be used that I have overlooked...

The best budget advice, to me, is keep a stocked pantry purchased at rock bottom prices, only restock at rock bottom prices, and check every day or two to see what you NEED to use. Be creative. See what's fresh and cheap when you shop. If you make up menus ahead, you might be stuck.

That's just me, my experience, wasting TONS of food in the last decade after a frugal childhood where nothing was wasted.

Same here: I look at what needs to be cooked right away.
If i have to shop the next day, I get things out of the freezer. This way i can stock-up on freezer items and save time by popping something in the oven. I am not concious after shopping: all the planning, tallying is sooo exhuasting.

Oh! I want to play too. I always have a menu for the week - but not this week!
We are leaving for three weeks at the end of this week so I am just eating out of the freezer for the time remaining. I look forward to posting a menu when I return in January.
