Default Homemade popsicles ?

My dh & I have been arguing that you don't need to use any special ingredients to make homemade popsicles. Am I wrong in thinking I can just use fruit juice & or Kool-aid in the molds?

You are not wrong.

Do you happen to have The Tightwad Gazette, Vol. I? Page 221 has an article on popsicles.

I've done this with different fruit juices -- plain orange juice, different Tropicana fruit juices, etc. Nothing extra needed!

I've heard of using yogurt too, for creamy pops - haven't tried it though.

I usually use just the juice. However you can add jello but I find that makes that too flavorful.

I need to buy some new plastic containers.

i use the juice plus a lil jello with the water.... i freeze mine in plastic ice cube trays, insert plastic stirers.... or i just use the cubes, minus the stir-ers for sodas and punch....

yes, they are great. Yogurt straight works well, too. Blend up smoothies...

The only "problem" with kool-aid is that it tends to make ice blocks - kids suck the flavor out and are left with an ice cube...haven't had that problem with juice or yogurt.

Frugal tip...if you drain a can of fruit, peaches, etc., add the juice into the popsicle liquid.

I add whole blueberries to them. You can add seedless grapes to them also (cut into pieces of they are too big).

I just got a popsicle mold for a dime at a garage sale. First batch today. Cheap canned papaya-took the juice and put it in. Put the drained papaya pieces in the blender to puree for muffins. Poured some puree back into the juice. Used plastic sppons as the stick. Life is very good.

I fill the molds with 1/2 apple juice and 1/2 water. My kids love them that way! Got the molds at the dollar store.

lrjohnson, I just love that you use this phrase (Life is very good) when talking about popsicles. It really is the small things that make life so very, very good! Thanks for giving me a smile tonight

Twice now I've put some hot water in an almost empty jelly/jam jar, shook it up, added yogurt, shook again and made popsicles. Very, very good.

I tried jello and wasn't really happy with the consistency. (I used sugar free, maybe that affected it.) Plain juice has been great. Also iced tea with some Splenda, some sugar.

But the yogurt pops have been my favorite.

I never do this, but I made pudding pops on monday.

It was..edible, but I would rather of had the oreos with milk and the pudding..umm not at all, and the coolwhip on strawberries.....

so apparently I have a good reason to not do it!

(I do make juice pops though, and I still have the iceblock problem with juice..I dunno why)

I am gonna try yogurt....

I took frozen strawberries and cut them into a tablespoon of pudding..it was delicious (we were out of yogurt) it was frozen and chilled me, but no waiting...the kids do it with frozen blueberries all the time.

When I was growing up, we'd just freeze grapes, blueberries, etc., straight and pull them out and eat frozen. Yum!
