One of my sons will not eat rice. He does eat it at this one local mexican restaurant though. I asked him why he would eat it there, but not at home and he said that it was the flavor. It looks like it has some sort of red sauce in it. I tried cooking rice in tomato sauce and it was a total failure. Let's just say that it doesn't look very attractive.
Any ideas on how to use it in something else? I would make a soup out of it, but my DH (d for d@mn) refuses to eat soup with rice in it. Thanks for the help! |

We have a taste it rule, and sometimes like two nights ago..you have to taste it different ways.
We had potatoes, GMC doesn't really like them much, only if he is in the mood, and with steack and carrots availible he was not in the mood! Anyway first he tried them, then he tried with gravy, then he tried with pepper, then with pepper and gravy, then with more gravy (all in between getting more steak and more carrots) In the end he ate about a quarter cup of potatoes, one taste at a time...and he got lots of carrots and some steak. |

hmmmm....you have to add spices, too...
I use a combination of chicken broth/tomato sauce instead of water to cook the rice. Add garlic, some pepper and, if you find it, curcuma (don't know the name in English, but it is also known as Arab saffron), also son chopped cilantro or parsley... Hope this helps! |

Oooh, I have a great recipe for jambalaya - tons of flavor. The basic premise is to cook onion, celery, green pepper until tender, then add chicken broth, diced tomatoes, hot sauce, cajun seasonings, and kielbasa - cook until rice is done (45-60 minutes - I don't use instant rice). If you want specifics, let me know and I can post the recipe (or you can find it on recipezaar.com).

Does your ds like any boxed versions of spanish rice?? Maybe look on there for contents and do a lil experimenting. Maybe with your origional attempt put in less sauce?
You can put rice in with cinnamon & sugar & hide it in cream of chicken or mushroom soup. You could maybe put it in some of the gravey from a La-Choy bi-pack or some soy sauce. I also like to put it in my home made chicken noodle soup. |
