Default Spaghetti sauce "add in's"

What do you add to your basic jarred sauce???

Depending on what time of year it is we add Tomatos, Zuchinni, carrots, green pepper, canned mushrooms. I like adding a ton of veggies, we all need to eat more veggies even if they are hidden

Anyone add anything else fun to it??

A coworker brought in some spaghetti her husband had made. She is from the Phillipines. He added Kielbasa. It was delicious!

I like to steam broccoli and then chop it into very small bits. Like you, I use that as an easy way to eat more vegetables. I also sometimes stir in soy "ground beef" crumbles, for a change in texture.

i actually use canned tomatoes usually, but I have found adding pureed squash is not noticed by the family.

My favorite non normal addition is spinach..I love spinach lasagna.

Definitely onions and garlic. I also like more basil, but family does not like as much as I do.

Making spaghetti sauce starting from tomato paste is cheaper for me than starting with a bottled sauce which needs much doctoring.

Onions and garlic, mushrooms, tomatoes, basil, oregano, bay leaf. Touch of sugar or parmesan if it's too acidic, mellows it out. Touch of red pepper seeds if it needs a bit of spice. For a real treat, the Fat City special, add little chunks of brie and red pepper (sorry Jen!). Usually, veggies.

all of the leftover veggies in the fridge at the end of the week, get cooked in the crockpot spaghetti sauce, then blenderized, and frozen into individual containers....

I always buy the large can of Hunts spaghetti sauce when it goes on sale for less than $1 a can. Then I add a small can of mushrooms, about 1/2 pound of cooked ground beef, and some chopped onion & chopped green pepper (if I have some on hand.) After it simmers awhile, I taste and adjust, if necessary with sugar, crushed red pepper and garlic.

I usually fix this at least twice a month and switch up on the pastas to make it interesting! My girlfriend likes spaghetti sauce on toast.

I'm a big fan of asparagus, although it seems to go better with alfredo style sauces. If you throw raw asparagus in with the pasta for the last few minutes of cooking, it comes out perfect. I also add herbs and spices to more basic sauces.
